Antonio Caballero
Mexico
Born in 1940 in Mexico City, Mexico.
Antonio Caballero was trained as a photojournalist by Héctor García. At the beginning of his career, he worked as a reporter and photographer on the crime beat for the weeklies Guerra al Crimen, Revista de Policía, and Nota Roja. He portrayed the architecture and the world of fashion and show business in Mexico City. He was also the producer, adapter, director, and photographer of more than 500 photonovels, love stories set amidst familiar Mexico City landmarks such as Tlatelolco, the Satellite Towers, and the Parque Hundido. When the photonovel industry collapsed, Caballero turned his skills to scientific photography for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His work is important in the history of mass-circulation photographic fiction.
